In the second season premiere, Cheyenne and Van handle parenthood and admit having a baby is a nightmare while Reba learns of the rules used for the kids at Brock and Barbara Jean's house.With Cheyenne, Van, and the baby living in student housing, things are finally back to normal and Reba plans to focus more attention on Kyra, who has become distant. However, her plans suddenly fall short when Van injures himself, suspending his scholarship and losing his off-campus housing, forcing the Montgomery family back into Reba's home.With finances tight, Reba sets out to find a job but quickly learns that her many years of experience as a mother don't transfer over into the job field. When Cheyenne and Van happily announce that they've applied for food stamps, a very frustrated Reba swallows her pride and takes Brock up on his offer to give her a job in his dental office.

Reba is slapped in the face.Reba tries not to make fun of Barbara Jean at Jake's birthday party but an unexpected twist occurs when Brock arrives recovering from Botox injections.Reba takes a romantic interest in Kyra's boyfriend's father, but the situation gets difficult when Kyra breaks up with her boyfriend.Reba quits her job at Brock's dental office and accepts a job working for Brock's rival. Meanwhile, Reba's babysitter get's sick and Barbara Jean takes over, and Reba enjoys her cooking when she gets home from work (and Brock's misery about Barbara Jean never cooks for him anymore,) so Reba lets her stay, they laugh and actually get along, until Jake calls Barbara Jean "Mommy" while saying goodbye while she was leaving for that day, so Reba calls her on the phone, lying about not needing her anymore. Reba ends up sending Kyra to her friends house, and taking Jake with her to work. After Reba's boss doesn't let Reba bring Jake with, Barbara Jean walks in and see's Jake with Reba, and figuring out why she was fired, so she leaves in a sad way.
